Best of Live Music in Tallahassee

live music in tallahassee

Summer is in full swing and there’s nothing that gets me into the summer vibe as much as live music does. Living in Tallahassee during college is great for music lovers like me. But, what about the rest of us? The ones who live on the other side of the canopy roads? You know, the ones with kids?! The good news is that, believe it or not, there are a few great spots {outside of the hustle and bustle of Collegetown} for the family to enjoy some live music together. We’ve compiled a list of our favorites, their schedules, and the kind of music you can expect to hear at each place.

With the family

Island Wing Company

Island Wing Company is a go-to for those looking for a kicked-back *island* vibe. With both indoor and outdoor seating, fire pits and couches, it is certainly a good spot to put your feet up after a long week of chasing toddlers {No? Just me?}. IWC is a big supporter of local Tallahassee bands and has live music 3-4 days per week {Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and some Sundays}. Since they are such local supporters, if you enjoy a certain band, the chances are high that you will see them perform at IWC again. Something to know before going is that their seating does fill up fast. If you’re going to IWC with someone who needs to stick to a sleep schedule {I’m looking at you, toddlers}, we recommend heading there earlier in the evening.

Hurricane Grill & Wings

With live music often happening Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Hurricane Grill & Wings is a great spot for finding local artists! You will often find kids dancing to the music and the wings never disappoint.

Date night

Brass Tap

Maybe you prefer to BE the live music! Brass Tap hosts Karaoke night every Thursday beginning at 9pm so bring your date and your best songs to share with the crowd. If you prefer to listen to others play the music, you’ll find live music there every Friday and Saturday night!

Fifth and Thomas

For those with a desire to feel like they’re back in college without being surrounded by kids half your age, Fifth and Thomas is another favorite destination. Located in the heart of Midtown, this spot is a described by their website as “a kitchen and musichouse prepared to offer the best music in the area while providing a homey ambiance of Honky-Tonk Chic.” Since they are only open on Fridays and Saturdays {and the music events are all 21+ exclusive}, it’s a no-brainer that this is a great date night destination, after a satisfying meal somewhere else.

Bradfordville Blues Club

Built in 1964 by Allen Henry Jr., the Bradfordville Blues Club is for the live music lover who equally enjoys soaking in Tallahassee’s rich history. As part of The Blues Trail that runs from Mississippi to Florida, the juke junction has always been a special local landmark. The BBC played an important role in the history of the Gulf Coast “chitlin circuit” for touring African American blues, jazz, and R&B musicians. Artists such as B.B. King, Bo Diddley, John Lee Hooker, and many more have performed between these concrete walls. The venue hosts a different artist each weekend, all of whom share the common goal of keeping the blues & soul music alive. Tickets for all shows can be purchased at
