Valentine’s Day is coming as I’m sure you’ve noticed by the flurry of red hearts in every store you enter (and the reminders you keep receiving from school about the various things you need to send in for this important holiday). While you may be getting the daily reminder everywhere you go, have you come up with that perfect gift for your significant other yet? Planned an extravagant outing? Made dinner reservations? No? …. Yeah, I haven’t either.
Don’t worry, we surveyed the group and found that all your husband really wants for Valentine’s Day is to be able to spend time with the one that he fell in love with ….. before the kids, the careers, and all of the chaos. Just a couple hours of quality time.
The hectic schedule and daily demands – your life revolves around your kids because they’re the most important thing to both of you, but make it a point to set some time aside for yourselves this week. If you can’t get a babysitter and a reservation at a fancy restaurant, you can still pop a bottle of champagne or sparkling cider and take some time to celebrate and reflect on where it all started and the wonderful life you have created together.
So pick a night and put everything else aside, choose a fun activity, and enjoy one another’s company. Maybe you’ll be able to have a lively discussion (without being interrupted six times), doing something you both enjoy – something new or even an old favorite.
Here are some of our favorites:
- Cook dinner (or order takeout!)
- Enjoy a tasting (cheese, beer, wine, chocolate… the possibilities are endless)
- Play a board game
- Do a puzzle
- Bake dessert
- Set up a picnic in the backyard
- Create an adventure list
- Have a movie marathon
